Lebanese American University

Update: Advancement

Wearing it with Pride

Last spring the university launched the LAU Memorabilia Gallery on the ground floor of Orme-Gray Hall on the Beirut campus. In development for several years, the gallery sells affinity items to students, alumni, faculty, staff and others, and gives them all the opportunity to show off their LAU pride through a wide variety of souvenirs and gifts including t-shirts, umbrellas, pens, mugs, mouse pads, hats picture frames, and other university-branded items.

The ability to create and distribute affinity items was actually built into the previous university strategic plan which just recently concluded. And it was completed through the successful collaboration of several of LAU’s divisions, including Human Resources and University Services, Student Development and Enrollment Management, as well as the Advancement division.

Roy Majdalani, LAU’s Vice President for Human Resources and University Services agreed when he spoke at the gallery opening last April. “This has been a collective effort from several departments at LAU,” he said. “It is about establishing an entity that will provide branded gifts…to promote a unified visual identity for our institutions and strengthen the link between LAU and its graduates,” he added.

Now, the gallery has a website (http://memorabilia.lau.edu.lb) where shoppers can browse the items available at the store. And soon items will be available for purchase directly from the website as well.

“Our unique spirit as a university lives in each one of us and animates the community,” President Jabbra said to a large crowd of university officials, faculty, staff and students who gathered for the inauguration of the gallery last April. “Memorabilia is important because it confirms that spirit, symbolically. Now people can see it, not just feel it.”

According to LAU’s Assistant Vice President for Communications and Marketing, Peggy Hanna, the university is hoping to encourage talented faculty and students to produce new LAU-branded products that can be sold at the gallery.

With the launching of the gallery and its growth and development, nurtured by so many people from every corner of the university community, LAU’s brand will continue to grow and proliferate around the globe.
