North American alumni gather in Washington

Last month, LAU held its Third Annual National Alumni Gathering at the DuPont Hotel on the DuPont Circle in the heart of Washington, DC. The series of events which were held over the weekend of May 20 – 22 involved dozens of LAU alumni from all around North America and included a welcome reception, a dinner, a brunch, two presentations, as well as plenty of opportunities for old friends to reconnect and enjoy their time in the US capital.

Alumni from Illinois, Michigan, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Maryland, Virginia and elsewhere came together in DC for the weekend. The presentations included a wrap-up discussion about last year’s marquee North American alumni event Yalla! which the university expects to reprise again later this year. The feedback received was valuable in helping to shape this year’s event and make it even better and more successful. Those in attendance during the weekend also heard from Philippe Nassif (pictured on the right, below) of the Center for American Progress and the White House Executive Office Advancement Team. Mr. Nassif discussed the issues facing immigrants in relationship to the current state of affairs in the United States and the Middle East. It was an informative discussion with a lively question-and-answer period that followed.

“We’re always pleased to gather as many alumni as we can during this annual weekend,” said Ed Shiner the director of alumni and special projects in LAU’s New York office. “Particularly given the fact that our alumni here in North America are so far away from their alma mater, we want them to know that we’re here for them and that their LAU family extends globally.”

The university looks to continue its tradition next year and build on the momentum that has developed with the previous years’ events with another fruitful and fun alumni weekend in North America.
